The Principality of Comino was established in 1797 by the Grand Master von Hompesch to his illegimate son called Honore von Hompesch.

The Principality became dormant after the French took possession of Comino, though Honore was Recognised as the Prince de Comino. Each generation styled Prince or Princess of Comino.

On the 15th August 1994, Her Serene Highness Honora I, Sovereign Princess of the Comino Islands, Princess of the Byzantine Empire, Marchioness of Fiflia, Countess of Elba and Feba Islands, Hereditary Marchioness of the Holy Roman Empire, Austrian Empire, The French Empire, Grandmaster of the Royal Order of the Golden Arches and Fish & Chips. Also has been honoured with many other Orders and Merits from distinquished countries and Pretenders of former thrones.
